How does my brand get into Google AI Overviews?

How does my brand get into Google AI Overviews?

The short answer

Google AI Overviews are AI-generated answer boxes that appear above the classic search results. Visibility there goes to whoever answers the user's specific question most precisely: with directly formulated answers on your own website, with structured data and above all with spoken long-form content on YouTube. Follower counts barely matter. What wins is the quality of the answer.

What are Google AI Overviews?

AI Overviews summarise the answer to a search query directly inside Google Search, before the classic links appear. They already reach more than 500 million users a month and have been rolling out widely in Europe since summer 2026. In the US, the first ads are already showing up inside them. For companies that means one thing: the answer box is the new number one result.

Two signals from Google Search show where search behaviour is heading: 15 percent of all daily search queries are completely new and have never been asked before. And the fastest growth comes from long, spoken queries in full sentences, no longer from single keywords.

The five levers for visibility in AI answers

  • 1. Answer-first structure: Turn your customers' question into a heading and answer it straight away in the first two or three sentences underneath. AI systems cite content that answers a question completely and precisely.
  • 2. YouTube long-form: YouTube is cited in AI answers roughly 200 times more often than social media posts. Ten minutes of spoken video give the AI around 3,000 words of context. Podcasts and interviews are therefore the most effective format for AI visibility.
  • 3. Conversational descriptions: Describe your services the way an outsider would ask for them. It is not your internal product name that counts, but details like material, occasion, effect and who it is for.
  • 4. Structured data: FAQ schema, organisation data and location details help AI systems file your content correctly and cite you as a source.
  • 5. Consistency: Regular, honest answers to real customer questions beat one-off campaigns. AI systems favour sources with demonstrable depth.

Why smaller brands can win right now

In AI search it is the spoken and written word that counts, not reach. A channel with 10,000 subscribers carries the same weight in AI answers as one with 3 million, provided its content delivers the better answer. For mid-sized companies and premium brands this is a historic opportunity: start producing answers systematically now and you build a head start that big budgets alone cannot buy back.

Getting started in three steps

First: collect the 20 questions your customers ask most often before they hire you. Second: answer each one as its own blog post and as a spoken video or podcast segment. Third: link the two together and track which answers actually bring in enquiries.
